Free Weather Fair Features Storm Chasers, Meteorologists, Storm Shelter & Weather Radio Giveaways
Family-friendly event held in conjunction with National Tornado Summit
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma families are invited to attend the first annual Weather Fair, a free event held in conjunction with the National Tornado Summit. The event will be held March 10th at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“Here in Oklahoma, so many of us are fascinated with the weather,” said National Tornado Summit Co-Chairman John Wiscaver. “That’s why this is such a great event, especially for families. You can meet and learn from national and local weather experts, create a family safety plan and also have a lot of fun. And you can do it all without spending a dime.”
Whether it’s a front-row seat at a storm chasing seminar or a surreal moment inside the tornado simulator, there’s something for everyone at the Weather Fair. Meteorologists, storm chasers and emergency responders will take turns on the main stage, explaining their role in severe weather preparedness, mitigation and response and sharing dramatic storm videos. Presenters will also be available to answer questions, take pictures and sign autographs.
Attendees can also get an up-close look at the Dominator 2, a storm research vehicle that drives head-on into danger to gather crucial information about tornadoes. Its unique design offers protection from flying debris, hurricane-force winds and damaging hail. Storm chasing and disaster response vehicles will also be on display.
The Weather Fair also features a storm shelter giveaway sponsored by FlatSafe and weather radio giveaways sponsored by NOAA and Fox 25 through a partnership with Midwest Radio and Homeland. Winners must be present to collect their prize.
The Weather Fair also includes: face painting, weather experiments, a coloring station, a photo booth, cutting-edge weather products and an appearance by the Weather Superheroes.
