OKLAHOMA CITY – Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb on Monday recognized the efforts of Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) employees in the aftermath of the deadly tornado outbreak that impacted central Oklahoma in May.
“You guys have been working extremely hard,” said Lamb. “From consumer assistance and licensing to legal and senior issues, you’ve done it all. I can’t thank you enough for your dedicated service to the state of Oklahoma. You have already helped countless citizens and I know it’s just the beginning. You’ve been outstanding.”
Lamb made the comments during an employee appreciation ceremony at the OID office in Oklahoma City.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our staff,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “These men and women have worked long hours, including nights and weekends, to help their fellow Oklahomans recover from disaster. They’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty and I can’t tell you what that means to me and to all those who have been helped.”
Over the past three weeks, members of several OID divisions have responded to disaster scenes including; legal, consumer, anti-fraud, licensing, communications, field operations, information technology and the Medicare Assistance Program (MAP).
The OID licensing division has issued 2,967 licenses in the past 12 business days. That’s compared to 2,723 issued in the entire month of April. The spike is mostly attributed to out-of-state adjusters being granted emergency licenses to handle the increase in claims.
Calls to the OID’s consumer assistance division have risen 59 percent since the May 20th tornado. The staff has also sent out approximately 40 Request for Assistance (RFA) forms per day since May 20th. The form is also available online at https://www.ok.gov/oid/assistance/request.php
Representatives from consumer assistance, legal and MAP are stationed at Westmoore High School Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Help is also available by calling 1-800-522-0071.
