OKLAHOMA CITY – Recent trips to Craig, Nowata and Muskogee Counties mark the end of Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak’s annual 77-County Tour. This is the third consecutive year for the statewide visits.
“The tour is a demonstration of a pledge I made when I was first elected to support the entire state of Oklahoma,” said Doak. “We are determined to better understand consumers’ concerns and let them know what our office can do on their behalf.”
Throughout the tour, Commissioner Doak met with members of local Chambers of Commerce, professional and civic organizations, insurance agents, business leaders, fire departments and citizens.
"Commissioner Doak brings a fresh approach to Oklahoma,” said John Griffin, President of Griffin Foods. “The Moore tornado is a perfect example of how he has been hands-on with communities throughout the state."
Topics of discussion included disaster recovery, Workers’ Compensation reforms, new health insurance mandates, captive insurance and the new uninsured motorist law.
“I want to take a minute to thank Commissioner Doak and the other staff members who took time to make the trip to Pawhuska,” said Michael McCartney, Economic Development Director for the City of Pawhuska. “The Commissioner not only addressed changes in the state of Oklahoma insurance laws, but the federal government as well. I feel that there were a great number of questions answered.”
“I have worked here for 38 years and have never had an insurance commissioner come to my office to visit,” said Kelly Smith, President of JWB Insurance. “I think the 77-county tour was a great idea so people can get to know the person they have elected. I appreciate the care and concern for my customers.”
“It's an honor to serve all citizens in every county of Oklahoma,” said Doak. “It is my responsibility to listen, engage and educate Oklahomans on insurance issues and I take that responsibility very seriously. I made a promise to be available and to serve the people. Listening to them across our state has been invaluable.”
Plans are already underway for next year’s 77-County Tour.
