OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak is reminding consumers that the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) is here to help. A recent example of the Department’s efforts to help consumers involved a reissuance of an insurance check to a consumer for an auto accident that occurred more than 12 years ago.
“This particular story is a significant victory, but it’s just one example of how my Department is willing and ready to help consumers sort through insurance issues and complications,” said Doak. “Consumers may forget that they have us in their ‘back pocket’ when it comes to navigating insurance problems or everyday insurance logistics. We are out there every day, helping hundreds of consumers deal with everything from reading a policy to complicated issues, such as this example.”
The consumer, currently residing in Oklahoma, contacted the OID regarding difficulties in cashing an insurance settlement check for injuries incurred by a family member in a 2002 auto accident. The check was made payable to several entities, inhibiting the consumer’s ability to deposit the funds. The OID contacted and worked with the insurance company to reissue the check under the consumer’s name, finally enabling the check to be deposited earlier today.
“There is no issue that we will not do our best to help with when a consumer calls or walks into our office,” continued Doak. “We wish the best to this consumer and are thrilled that we were able to help generate such a positive outcome.”
Oklahoma consumers are urged to contact the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Consumer Assistance Division at 1-800-522-0071 for help with insurance-related issues or visit www.oid.ok.gov.
