OKLAHOMA CITY–Many fraudsters see senior adults as easy targets, now the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) wants to give seniors the tools they need to protect themselves.
Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak and the OID have scheduled five anti-fraud conferences for senior adults. Those who attend the one-day event will learn how to spot, avoid and fight fraud. “Fraud Is No Game,” will be held in Woodward, Norman, McAlester, Lawton and Tulsa.
“Criminals who go after seniors should beware. It’s my mission to protect these important citizens and I will go after anyone who tries to take advantage of them,” said Doak. “These conferences will teach seniors how to spot a scam and what to do next.”
The conference topics include: Medicare Fraud, Funeral Home Trust Fraud, Contractor Fraud and Investment Fraud. Participants will also attend a “Uniform Fashion Show”. It features local utility workers in their official uniforms. The workers will explain what happens during legitimate home visits so seniors will know the real deal from a fake. The conference is free for senior adults and includes breakfast. There is a $25 fee for insurance and law enforcement professionals seeking Continuing Education credit.
